I pack cucumbers, fresh/raw string beans and carrots or rice cakes for a healthy snack. I also sometimes do a mix of Cheerios, Goldfish and pretzels – good way to cut down on Goldfish!

My tot loves snacking on pine nuts, sunflower seeds, cashews and pistachios in her stroller! Of course, you have to beware of nut allergies and make sure the nuts are being chewed well! but these are awesome healthy snacks!

For my one year old we give organic cheese sticks and whole wheat bread sticks. This helps with the teething as well. Sometimes we give her organic grape tomatoes.

My son LOVES pirates booty. Its healthy, crunchy (which is why he likes it) and dissolves in the mouth.

17.
Beth B Posted on August 2, 2009 at 9:35 pm

When out and about in NYC I make sure I always have some fruit cut up in a plastic container that my toddler can easily hold and eat from. And when we travel I bring along Freeze Dried Crunchies. You can buy them in the supermarket. They are great for the plane-no mess, but healthy and great for fruit lovers. My toddler loves the Very Berry!

18.
Gwenn Posted on August 2, 2009 at 9:36 pm

Hi everyone!
My 13 month old loves dirt–it’s organic, and it’s high in protein! He is also a fan of dust bunnies, which I keep telling him does not jibe with our Vegan lifestyle. Kids.

Seriously though, Dashiell is a fan of snap-pea crisps, and Mrs. May’s cran-blueberry crunch, available in handy resealable packets. http://www.mrsmays.com

Now, let’s WIN THIS RAFFLE!! Big money, big money, no whammies!!!!

24.
Nerissa Bilan Posted on August 2, 2009 at 9:55 pm

I make baked sweet potato chips, which take 20 minutes but so worth it to stockpile. Otherwise, chick peas and cucumber sticks, which never stain clothes.

25.
Rebecca Posted on August 2, 2009 at 9:55 pm

I make Sam (2-years-old) a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and then cut it up into little squares so its more finger-friendly. Also, he’s a HUGE fan of the drinkable YoBaby yogurts. I put one into his sippy cup every morning and he drinks it on the way to/from wherever we’re going. It’s a super-easy and healthy on-the-go snack.

26.
Melanie Posted on August 2, 2009 at 9:58 pm

My 2/1/2 year old loves her cereal bars – either Earth’s Best or Clif’s Kidz. Great for breakfast on the go – say on the way to early Music Together class!

27.
Erica Posted on August 2, 2009 at 10:07 pm

Blueberries, Peas or Earth’s Best Fruit Rings, right in the snack trap, she loves them!

28.
Debra Weisleder Posted on August 2, 2009 at 10:10 pm

If you can find the mini jif peanut butter containers, they are perfect. Grab a spoon, some pretzels and you’re good to go! Also, frozen Dr. Pragers sweet potato littles. Throw them in your bag and by the time it’s lunch, they are perfect…and the best kept secret are the low-sugar, healthy lollipops…they are the best and save the day…daily!

29.
Keri Posted on August 2, 2009 at 10:23 pm

My 14 mth daughter loves to snack on frozen peas, carrots, and corn. Quick and easy to grab, plus, I think they feel good on her gums.

30.
EBrizzolara Posted on August 2, 2009 at 10:26 pm

I roll whatever cold cuts I have – usually turkey and swiss – into ‘cigars’ and roll them in saran. When we are out, I unwrap and let my toddler hold on and chomp as we stroll. Easy to make, transport and eat – a sandwich without the bread!

31.
moria Posted on August 2, 2009 at 10:30 pm

33.
Lauren Lodato Posted on August 2, 2009 at 10:39 pm

My daughter loves the Annie’s whole wheat and cheddar bunnies ( a much healthier alternative to goldfish.)I also put hummus on a piece of whole wheat toast for her or melt cheddar cheese on toast and take it to go. Fruit is always a quick and healthy option as well-mangoes and pears are her favorite.

I make a little snack mix of cheerios, jumbo krispies, raisins, goldfish and whatever else is small and non-perishable and put it in his snack cup.

I second the hummus and veggies snack too. My boy loves to dip stuff!

40.
Tess Posted on August 2, 2009 at 10:59 pm

I freeze the organic stonyfield farm yogurt packs (they are long and skinny like a push up pop), and when we are ready to go out, i pop one in my bag and it is delicious frozen (like ice cream) or defrosted). Also, no mess, which is convenient!

We also make banana/strawberry/yogurt smoothies in the morning. Blake never finishes his, so I pop it into a plastic sippy cup, and he has a nutrtitious, filling snack while I start my day grocery shopping, running errands, or playing at the park.

41.
Ana Ramirez Posted on August 2, 2009 at 11:01 pm

I just recently discovered Snikiddy Snacks. They are a healthy snack for kids. With no hydrogenated oils or saturated fats!

42.
Kristen Riolo Posted on August 2, 2009 at 11:04 pm

Cut up fresh fruit like strawberries, grapes, blueberries, canteloupe, honeydew, etc.or a whole banana; but for those days when you have run out, dried cranberries or apricots and almonds or Target sells a great brand of fruit bars that don’t have any high fructose corn syrup and they are actually a decent source of fiber for a dried fruit bar – pomegranite is my 2 year old’s favorite flavor.

43.
lindsay Posted on August 2, 2009 at 11:04 pm

hummus and any raw veggie and/or pretzels to drip. dred mango and apples.

44.
Kristen Riolo Posted on August 2, 2009 at 11:07 pm

48.
Jackie Posted on August 2, 2009 at 11:19 pm

I bring GoGo Squeez applesauce packets that I buy at Whole Foods. It’s a little pack of applesauce that comes in a squeezable container. The packaging really appeals to my daughter and I love that she is eating a healthy snack. Plum Organics also makes a similar product.

49.
Jennifer O Posted on August 2, 2009 at 11:24 pm

My toddler loves organic cheese sticks, pretzel goldfish and horizon organic vanilla milk in the boxes which are great bc they don’t have to be refrigerated until opened!

50.
Christina Posted on August 2, 2009 at 11:29 pm

My daughter loves her soy pudding snacks and her soy cheese. She has milk allergies so we found fun and delicious soy products for her to have. She also loved the Happy Baby puffs in all the different flavors – banana and apple are her favorite.

53.
Melissa Posted on August 3, 2009 at 12:12 am

I like to bring dehydrated apples to the park. Mozzarella cheese sticks. He is also a fan of blueberries. They are easy to pack and perfect choice of fruit because it is small enough so I don’t have to cut it into pieces. Another favorite is whole wheat bunnies. Plus, I was surprised to see how much my 2 yr old loves corn on the cob. I bring that outside because it could get messy.

54.
Lauren Posted on August 3, 2009 at 12:14 am

I like to squish cheese into cheerios and make my own “combos” for her. She also likes spinach pancakes.

55.
Elaine Harkins Posted on August 3, 2009 at 12:26 am

string cheese, yogurt squeezers, Cheerios or any other healthy non-flakey cereal, chunks of fruit (though messy)

56.

hey, great job on the web-site!
My 3-month old is too young to snack on anything other than milk, but I often bring Clif Nectar bars for my freinds’ kids, and they love it.
Thank you all for posting. With your help my boy will enjoy a variety of snacks when he’s a little older.

57.
Christine Posted on August 3, 2009 at 12:56 am

Freeze dried corn (brand name = Just Corn) is our new discovery. She also loves grapes and organic sesame sticks. And a hard boliled egg is great on the go – travels well and just peeling it will keep her entertained.

58.
Eda Farag Posted on August 3, 2009 at 1:25 am

Thin sliced Apples and peaches, and Stonyfield Brand Yogurt drinks/smoothies are healthy and great to go!

59.
Marissa Posted on August 3, 2009 at 4:06 am

My daughter equates the word, “snack” with Pirates Booty cheese puffs. I can’t say the word snack unless it’s Pirates Booty in my bag.

60.
Michele L. Posted on August 3, 2009 at 6:56 am

Sophie (11 mos) has a “chef salad” on the go – this was more of a meal on the go when I had a doc’s appointment during her normal lunchtime, but since then I’ve discovered it works well as a snack: mix up cubes of cheddar and swiss cheese, roast beef, turkey or ham for starters. She does well with eggs, so I mix up egg whites in there and then some cooked carrots and tomatoes (cut out the pulpy part for less mess) for veggies. I’ll add cucumbers down the road for more veg once she’s got some more teeth going, but this one’s a hit with her.

61.
JODI Posted on August 3, 2009 at 7:04 am

My son loves veggie sticks. Healthier than chips or pretzels. Also danimal yogurt drinks too. Mini carrots with hummus also. And travel packets of peanut butter is always great to have for a quick snack

62.
Elissa Posted on August 3, 2009 at 7:09 am

My latest find is Kashi Mighty Bites. They’re slightly bigger than Cheerios and shaped like a little person – my daughter is willing to take one at a time instead of a whole handful out of the snack trap – much less of a mess! And they’re both healthy and tasty.

63.
Robyn Posted on August 3, 2009 at 7:18 am

My son loves honey wheat pretzels and cut up cherries.

64.
Ha O. Posted on August 3, 2009 at 7:18 am

Edamame, blueberries, cut up apple, chickpeas, and black beans. My son also loved the freeze-dried peas for a while.

65.
Courtney Posted on August 3, 2009 at 7:20 am

My 18 month old loves to snack on string cheese. It’s a little tough for him to break apart on his own, so I precut into circles and place in snack trap or stroller tray with some cheddar fish or bunnies. Cheese and crackers–great combination! I also freeze grapes and then cut them in half for a cool summer snack on the go. Since they were frozen they last much longer in the heat. Happy snacking!

66.
Helen Stephan Posted on August 3, 2009 at 7:32 am

Mess free fruits like grapes and blueberries chilled. A great way for Mom and your toddler to cool off.

67.
Nancy Posted on August 3, 2009 at 7:36 am

We love chickpeas on the go! They are high in fiber and protein and best of all if you can buy no salt added chickpeas in a can making them easy to grab!

68.

72.
Abigail Hartley Posted on August 3, 2009 at 8:16 am

My 10 month old son loves blueberry or apple cottage cheese buckwheat pancakes on the go. I make a big batch in the beginning of the week and wrap them up into individual tin foil packets and store them in the fridge. I grab a packet on our way out the door. He gets fruit, protein and whole grain all in one mouthful!

73.
Catherine Carpenter Posted on August 3, 2009 at 8:28 am

We love the baby mum mum and the toddler mum mum. My daughter loves the crunchy texture and they are the perfect size for her to hold in her tiny hands.

I always bring a banana with us. It is so easy and almost mess free!!!

78.
Karie Posted on August 3, 2009 at 8:46 am

My daughter loves the Plumtots Mish-Mash fruit pouches. The packaging is BPA free and there is no added sugar! It isn’t messy becuase she sips it from the pouch.

79.
Carrie Posted on August 3, 2009 at 8:50 am

My 13 month old can’t get enough blueberries – I have to hide the container from her or she’d eat the whole pint in a single sitting. And the best part – other than rinsing there’s no work!

80.
harlee Posted on August 3, 2009 at 9:08 am

Might sound weird, but chick peas are a great snack. I buy canned, they have organic and regular, and just rinse them off. They are great to bring in a container on the go or as an “appetizer” while I’m heating up my son’s dinner. He loves them and they are a great source of iron.

81.
Jenn Posted on August 3, 2009 at 9:09 am

Cut up fruit, string cheese or Mum Mum crackers.

82.
Elisha Posted on August 3, 2009 at 9:10 am

83.
Suzy Posted on August 3, 2009 at 9:11 am

My little guy likes mashed avocados and bananas spread on strips of bread – it’s soft and squishy enough for someone with only 4 teeth!

84.
Angela Middleton Posted on August 3, 2009 at 9:19 am

My toddler loves to hold bags instead of snack containers so I have to be creative and come up with things that wont get broken or smashed. She is old enough for nuts so one of her favorites is honey yogurt covered almonds and I don’t feel guilty for helping her eat them! The classics we take are sliced apples, bananas, and cheddar bunnies. I always keep GNU bars in the stroller just in case and she enjoys them.

85.
Meredith Posted on August 3, 2009 at 9:25 am

My son (1year) loves tofu with chrushed cheerios!

86.
Rhiannon Posted on August 3, 2009 at 9:26 am

Plum Tots Organic Mish Mash (Diapers.com or drugstore.com) is a fruit smoothie with just fruit, no added sugar or anything! Love all the snacks, cut up, in baggies, snack cups etc, but these pouches just open and go, they suck on them no mess. You can reseal the top and they take up very little room in the diaper bag! Wish I could find more of the savory ones here that they make in England.

87.
Meredith Posted on August 3, 2009 at 9:28 am

My son (1 year) loves tofu with crushed cheerios!

88.
Leslie Posted on August 3, 2009 at 9:34 am

We put a slice of organic American cheese in the pocket of the diaper bag. Since they are individually wrapped it’s easy way to bring some calcium along.

89.
Annelise Osborne Posted on August 3, 2009 at 9:36 am

My 1 yr old and 3 yr old LOVE snap peas. They are fun to eat, easy to transport and healthy. I also always carry a chewy granola bar and a string cheese for easy snacks on the go.

90.
Bonnie Somerstein Posted on August 3, 2009 at 9:41 am

Fresh fruit (grapes, blueberries, strawberries, mangoes), cut avocado, cheese, “puffs”, bunnies – all easy to hold and when they drop on the floor, not too much of a mess to clean up!

91.
Heather Posted on August 3, 2009 at 10:03 am

How can you pack in all food groups into one great snack? SMOOTHIES! Using a straw is fun for toddlers and you can sneak in all kinds of goodies and no worries about choking on little snacks on the go– bananas, protein powder with vitamins and minerals, fresh berries, nutritional yeast, yogurt, honey (only use honey for little ones over 12 months old). Bonus? If they’re feeling under the weather, you can add immune-boosting ingredients like echinacea syrup. You can buy smoothies on the go but it’s even more fun to make them at home and your toddler will enjoy putting all of the ingredients in the blender. Have fun together!

92.
Lauren Solimando Posted on August 3, 2009 at 10:04 am

Frozen pieces of banana & frozen blueberries (antioxidants!).

99.
Antonella Posted on August 3, 2009 at 11:04 am

Jamie loves his Happy Baby puffs (fruit and veggie versions) from when he was a baby, Yobaby yogurts, crackers, bagels, apple sauce and juice boxes. He uses to eat cut up fruits but then we discovered he has a berry sensitivity, so he stopped eating all fruits and veggies in pieces unfortunately, but hopefully he’ll start up again – fingers crossed.

106.
Amy Sapirstein Posted on August 3, 2009 at 12:41 pm

I have been giving my toddler Yotta Bars, by Undercover Vegetable Co since she was maybe 10 mths. They have 9 veggies and fruits in each bar and are actually DELISH!! They are approx. $2 per bar in stores, but I now by the online at Amazon by the box for under $1.50 per bar. Here is the link on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw_0_5?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=yotta+bars&sprefix=yotta

Another easy thing I started doing a couple weeks back, is putting a bunch of different healthy snacks into one ziplock bag. I include things like grapes, yellow bell pepper slices, baby carrots, etc. Then I give the bag to my 2 yr old and she gets to pick anything she wants. It seems to work great and keeps her happy and me feeling good about her snacking :) .

My son is allergic to cheese but he loves plain pasta noodles. I like to make a bunch of those spiral spinach and mutli-color (carrot, spinach and plain) noodles. They also come in wheel-shapes. They refrigerate well and are great for a snack on the go. I don’t put sauce or cheese so they are not messy either. He loves it! I also will toss those noodles in a to-go bowl, with some cold beans (pinto, red or white) and some diced avocado or chopped tomatos for variety. Keeps for days, and easy to make a handful of noodles at a time!

113.
Suzanne Posted on August 3, 2009 at 2:16 pm

I always bring a banana!

They are easy handy and best of all my toddler loves them. If we are going on a longer outing I also bring a little cheese or peanut butter sandwich.

I have also recently discovered those little individual serviings of cereal work well too- my little guy loves to open the box and eat out of it, even if it is just cheerios :)

I just started baking these banana, whole wheat muffins and feed them in small pieces to my son. They are quick and easy to bake and freeze really well. They are packed with fiber, fruit and nutrition!

138.
Jennifer Otten Posted on August 5, 2009 at 8:20 am

Savoury muffins (I bake them myself) – you can hide grated carrots, broccoli, corn, ham and some nice cheese in there. I freeze them in finger size pieces and just grab one from the freezer before departing the house…that way by the time he is hungry the snack is defrosted and ready to eat!

139.
Danielle Lerner Posted on August 5, 2009 at 3:22 pm

I freeze squeezable yogurts and then give them out on hot days – they are a nice chill-treat!

140.
Jenifer Posted on August 5, 2009 at 3:29 pm

I bring Susie’s Supper Club spinach squares with us everywhere. My son loves them, the are local, organic and yummy. Of course, he ends up having to share them with me.

141.
Laurie Posted on August 6, 2009 at 1:09 am

My son Dylan loved to each cheerios with raisins and I would even add bananas. As a CPR Instructor I want to remind everyone not to literally feed their little one while “on the go” in the stroller because choking is a silent emergency. You want to try to prevent any possible first aid emergencies.

My son is 6 months old, my nephew is a year old, and I am 23, and we all love these snacks!! Peter Rabbit Organics has pouches of organic pureed fruit, which you can squeeze into your child’s, or your own mouth, and then reseal. They are very portable, and limit messiness. Smashies, another popular brand, makes a similar product they call fruit sauces, marketed for all ages. I have used these also, and they also are very quick, easy to grab, and not messy at all. Finally, the kicker, Tasty Baby has pureed fruit cubes! They are amazing to munch on, throw in a smoothie, give to a kid who is teething, and not messy at all! They come in a prepacked small container, small enough to fit in your diaper bag, and is a great healthy snack. Usually, my son doesnt end up getting much because I eat it all! Definately go try these products and you won’t be dissapointed!

Besides the usual Cheerios and Elmo snacks, I found three snacks to be the best for when I am on the go with my 15 month old son Sawyer. When he was starting snakcs his favorite treat was a Baby Mum Mum cracker in the vegetable flavor http://www.babymummum.com.au/product.html and then the Toddler Mum Mums in strawberry when he got older (I didn’t know they made them until then) http://www.mummums.com/products/toddler-mum-mums/strawberry They are light, rice crackers that are easy to eat and the kids can hold them and they take a bit of time to eat which is always good! They were not always easy to find in the past but now more stores carry them like Fairway, Whole foods and my neighborhood store, Barzini’s.

Sawyer also flipped (still does) over Organic Mash Ups Squeezable Fruits http://products.revfoods.com/products/mashups They come in four flavors, are 100% organic, and they helped to teach him to squeeze something. You can find them at the same stores I mentioned above or online.

Sawyer also loves to eat the Magic Pop rice cakes that certain grocery stores (Stew Leonard’s) or local deli’s make from rice popping machine. They are only 15-20 calories per cake and made up of basically air, flour, and salt. Very crunchy and the size of a small Frisbee. Sawyer LOVES to hold them and break off little pieces to eat. He also loves them with jelly or hummus and they are sooo good to take on the go because they also take a long time to eat! I think Fairway and Garden of Eden has them. I had my mom bring bags of them at a time from LI until I found them near me! http://www.thekitchn.com/thekitchn/snacks/nyc-food-find-home-baked-rice-cakes-from-westside-market-048210

He also likes anything in a ziplock bag these days!

Deirdre Posted on August 23, 2009 at 8:52 pm

I think some great travel snacks for baby are:

Cut up fruits and veggies.
Semi-frozen bagels (which not only help with teething, but are perfect for gnawing).
In the summer, make ice pops with applesauce and water.
Cheerios!

166.
Sharon Posted on August 23, 2009 at 9:00 pm

Cucumber sticks, grated carrot, sliced capsicum and tomato. Cooked options include pumpkin, sweet potato, beans, peas, corn, carrot. Toddlers are notorious for being particularly picky with vegetables. If you give them veggies as a snack while their attention is taken by new surroundings, some may be more likely to eat them.

167.
Marissa Posted on August 23, 2009 at 9:06 pm

Banana and soy milk smoothie – a great way to use up those ripe bananas!
