Baby whisperer is the best I read among 4 others. Both for infant and toddler are great!
Babywise is helpful. But too short and not detailed enough.

LOVED City Baby NY by Kelly Ashton and Pamela Weinberg. Great guide for everything form pregnancy (birthing classes, nutrition, etc.) to new mom classes to birthday party help.

Okay, so here’s what DIDN’T help me… Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child. I’m not a fan of the condescending Dr. Weissbluth. But the psychological support of “The Second Nine Months” memoir by Vicki Glembocki got me through reflux/colic/craziness and back to sanity.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this new book, SIMPLICITY PARENTING. It is so inspirational. I feel like I will be going back to it until I ship my kids off to college. It talks about how to get out of the madness of “TOO MUCH”…too much stuff, too much information, too many choices, etc….that turns kids into little entitlement monsters. It shows how to simplify, and how when you do, kids get calmer, and are able to focus. What I love about it is that the writing is beautiful…it makes my cry in parts, it is philosophical but it also has these GREAT IDEAS. Really practical stuff that I have been putting into practice. I am not kidding….major changes (for the better) in our house since I read this!

My favorite book was ,Mark Weissbluth’s “Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child”. This was a great book that I kept reference and still keep referencing whenever we have ‘sleep issues’. What was best about this book was that it explained what was happening with your child developmentally by age and was very easy to read and understand. This is especially important when you are sleep deprived.

Seriously, I feel like we bought all of them — Ferber, No Cry Sleep Solution, good Night, Sleep Tight (by Kim West), 123 Magic, Blessing of a Skinned Knee, Happiest Toddler on the Block ( never got the baby version), and a few others. We pick up advice here and there, but none of the sleeping books have made my second baby a great sleeper (although I have to admit that I’ve modified Ferber a bit too much since I’m a wuss!) and none of the toddler books cure the terrible twos.

Three weeks after my first child was born, I read The Nursing Mother’s Companion by Kathleen Huggins and it was a crucial part of my success wth breastfeeding. I breastfed both my children for about 13 months each.

The Power of a Positive Mom by Karol Ladd helped me to grow spiritually as a Christian mother so I could be a godly example to my children.

‘Great Expectations’ by Sandy Jones and Marcie Jones: very useful and informative bookf or pregnancy through the first year or so of life. I refer to it often.

‘BabyWise’ by Ezzo and Bucknam ‘m also still refering ot this book. It is very helpful in getting your baby on a healthy sleeping schedule.

On Becoming BabyWise by Gary Ezzo M.A. & Robert Bucknam M.D.

I swear by this book and it’s parent-guided feeding philosophy! My daughter has been sleeping through the night (12 hours) since 3 months of age and is a great morning and afternoon napper at 9 months. I give much of the credit to practicing the principles in this book.

I wish I had read The Baby Whisperer by Tracy Hogg sooner. At least I found it when my baby was 3 months and it taught me how to finally bring some sort of structure to our day, making everyone much happier. Also my husband and I think Ferber (Solve Your Child’s Sleep Problems) is a god!

Vicki Iovine’s “The Girlfriend’s Guide to Surviving the First Year of Motherhood”, mostly because it helped me laugh at my struggles with being a new mom and embrace my imperfections as a mother.

I liked Happiest Baby on the Block by Harvey Karp. After reading the Baby Whisperer, I was psyched, but thought I shouldn’t hold my baby too much. However, Dr. Karp’s book talked about how to soothe my baby in the first 3 months. It’s been great.

I got most of my information online and one of the most valuable sites to me (in addition to BabyCenter.com and WhattoExpect.com) was http://www.PickNicksBrain.com. My baby was having a lot of sleep issues and I found eveything I needed about baby sleep on this site. I also used Nicole (the sleep expert) for consultaion. She worked with me and now my baby is a great sleeper! So I’d say that has been my biggest help!

well … mine is a little less traditional, but it’s the vaccine book, by dr. sears and it really helped me sort out the facts and concerns. i believe making these decisions for our little ones is all part of parenting, so it’s my vote!

One of my favorite books was “Your Baby’s First Year Week By Week.” I love the short summaries of what to expect every week, highlighting the physical and developmental milestones your baby will go through in the first 12 months.

My new favorite book is SIMPLICITY PARENTING also. It really addresses all of the challenges of raising kids in our culture…kis who want to buy, and use, and see, and know everything that their
friends do. It shows why–very important!–but also how–also important–to hold the line. How to carve out some space, some time, some innocence for them. And how to keep the emphasis in family life on what is important. Very inspiring, and beautifully written!

44.
Erica Posted on September 22, 2009 at 9:51 pm

“Baby 411″ – answers lots of questions in an easy and straightforward way. “Baby Bargains” – sort of like the “Consumers Report” for baby stuff and “The Girlfriend’s Guide to Surviving the First Year of Motherhood” by Vicki Iovine – made me laugh out loud!

Healthy Baby Happy Home: A must-have resource for green parenting!

As both a parent of an active toddler and an enthusiastic, expectant mom – nothing is more sacred to me than the successful creation of a healthy, happy and “Green” home environment for my beloved children. So, needless to say I count myself as ‘privileged’ to have been referred by a mom in our parenting group to the Healthy Baby Happy Home website. Using their developmentally sound resources, I discovered countless, affordable ways to create a ‘model’ green home environment. And though, our family is admittedly on a tight budget these days, I have managed to discover valuable ‘green parenting’ techniques including: practical ways to eliminate the dangerous toxins and chemicals lurking in our home and in popular cleaning products; to baby-proofing, safety tips and even an eco-friendly nutritional guide (all within my limited budget, no less)!

So, for any new and expectant parents who similarly desire to create an affordable, efficient and healthy green home for their children, but do not know how or where to begin…I wholeheartedly recommend Healthy Baby Happy Home as a one-stop resource site and book for any parent on a mission to create a healthy eco-friendly home environment. When you get a chance, visit http://healthybabyhappyhome.com/ and don’t bother to thank me, just be kind enough to refer me to any other empowering, practical parenting tips, sites or resources you have discovered on your parenting journey!
