My mother - who told me that she really did not want to have children before she had me - also said that my brother and I were the best thing that ever happened to her. She just showed us lots of love and always spoke nicely to us, from when we were babies. She told me that while you need to modify your language for little ones, you should remember that they are still people and you can still have normal conversations with them about everything, even if they are one-way at the beginning - and now that we are grown up, my brother and I continue to have an open dialogue with our mother.

Make time for yourself every day. I hand my son off to my husband as soon as he walks in the door, so that I can have time to do things I want to do.

"Do not worry so much!" Although I will admit that sometimes it is really hard to live by this as I am somewhat of a worry wart ;-)!

There is nothing wrong with watching TV. Apparently both my brother and I watched endless amounts as babies and we turned out okay! She even said my brother would dance to the music from the TV and I shouldn't deny my son's opportunity to do the same! Haha.

My daughter used to scream during bath time so my mom told me to dim the overhead lights a little, make the water warmer & deeper and put her towel in the dryer to warm it up. Worked perfectly and now my baby loves the bath.

I always wanted to stay home with my children and raise them myself, my mom told me that I would prefer to go back to work because being a stay home mom is a lot of work and it's never appreciated, but i didn't belive her... now I do! Another word of advice from her: "Children always have to be kept busy. If they're upset or fussy, distract them from the problem and they'll forget why they're upset in the first place."

"I've never met an adult who only eats purees. Eventually he'll grow out of it." This can basically be applied to any stage that may frustrate us new moms.
