Coloring a big boxs with markers and crayons and then making it into a playhouse….doing the laundry, CMOM and city treehouse playtime
Baking is always a great activity in my house! Especially cookie cutter cookies!
Play Doh-we spend a lot of time playing with it. I bought the set with letters so I work on letters and colors with her while playing!
Our local D’ag (57th and 1st) has little shoppiong carts that my two and a half year loves to push around and fill up. Gets us out of the house and some errands done.
Hanging out in the lobby greeting people as they walk into our building, petting the dogs, playing with the doormen!
My daughter was born almost a year ago so last winter was so hard doing anything with her but she really enjoy swimming classes it is great and since she is just turning one discovering the world even inside the house is amazing for both of us.
The Toddler Adventure Center at Chelsea Piers and the City Treehouse
museum, museums and more museums!!!! My son loves them all. Entertaining and educational all wrapped up in one!
Play-do, a magnetic fishing set in the tub, getting the mail, stickers and painting, and having a dance party with instruments.
My 2 year old has just gotten into building “forts” with blankets and pillows, and if you give him a flashlight, it’s hours of fun for him.
CMOM, Discovery Room at the Natural History Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art on Fri/Sat evenings, swimming at the JCC (great toddler pool) – all are indoors but we still need to get out!
The new Barnes and Noble on 86th and Lexington. It’s free to spend time there and they have a huge children’s section with toys.
We try to go out at least once a day even when cold for about an hour in the morning. Afternoons, we either run errands, but most often my little 2 year old helper follows me around the house asking to help with whatever I’m doing (laundry, cooking, making fresh juice are favorites). When I’m not busy with errands, we also do art project, play with toddler computer software, set up his pop up clubhouse, read books or watch a little TV (Nick Jr. and Disney channel are favorites). We also do the Creative Play drop-in classes on Mondays or Thursdays and visits to museums on the weekends. During the holiday season, we also planned some special outing like the Gazillion Bubble Show and the Train Show at the Botanical Gardens.
Making house chores into games….” I bet you can’t pick up all your toys before I’m done cleaning the table.” If he does it’s onto the next chore if he doesn’t the tickle monster takes over and we take a little time out and do the chore together while watching cartoons.”
Going to the playroom in our building and museums!
We totally love the music classes at Moonsoup!
We enjoy reading, playing on the Einstein mat, watching Baby Einstein videos, and I sing and dance for my baby boy on a regular basis at home.
the american museum of natural history
The library is a great day out.
Some indoor activities that we cannot do without are reading books, making snowflake cut outs to decorate the windows, making funny faces in the mirror, and hide and seek. When all else fails, my toddler always loves cotton ball games- we blow the cotton ball out of our hand and the other catches it and blows it back. Try it some time with your kids!
We do lots of crafting. I bought a teachers book that teaches prek children to do different activities for the month of December. If we don’t do something from the book then we go online to Nickjr.com and pick out something. Then we put on the music and have a dance off. We have loads of fun indoors.
Free sample classes are always fun and toddler story hour at your local library is good too.
Oh I almost forgot every Sat. after my daughter dance class we go to the Lakshore Learning Center which they have free crafting from 11am-3pm for the kids. Plus the kids get to play with the toys and kitchens etc.
CMOM, American Museum of Natural History, running in the hallway of our apartment building (limited time, so as not to bother the neighbors!)
when my kids were little, I would tape huge pieces of paper to the walls and let them “redecorate” with stickers and washable markers. Also, we would get our the tupperware and pots and pans for our family band.
