As part of our commitment to educate our community, we had the amazing opportunity to have Hal Runkel, founder of ScreamFree Institute, speak as our keynote at the 2011 Mommybites Summit. He was nothing short of amazing and his message resonated loud and clear (but there was definitely no screaming). We know many of our community members couldn’t make the evening festivities so we wanted to make sure you had the chance to see what close to 300 attendees got to experience first hand: the magic of Hal Runkel.

Below is a video of his 35 minute talk he gave on May 19, 2011. Watch, listen, and enact his easy action items. Then let’s start talking, supporting, and sharing our strengths, struggles, and lesson learned so that we as a community can all come together to be the best parents we can.

Tell us your thoughts. Feel free to ask questions and we can get them answered by others in our community as well as any expert that chimes in too. Let’s get the conversation started.

Dr. Edward Hallowell, father of three and a clinical psychiatrist, outlines a five-step plan for promoting successful learning and lifelong joy that teachers, parents and all others who care about children can use to give children the gift of happiness that will last a lifetime: Connect, Play, Practice, Mastery and Recognition. As fundamental as these five concepts are, they hold the key to raising children with healthy self-esteem, moral awareness and spiritual values. Based on current research, as well as his own experiences as a parent, teacher, and child psychiatrist, Dr. Hallowell will discuss how one step leads to the next and how the cycle is self-perpetuated. He will explain how these five key qualities can greatly increase a child’s chances of leading a joyful and meaningful life.
