Last February, we launched our series of webbybites videos and they have been viewed over 5,500 times since then! These videos are a way for us to introduce hot topics through the insights of top parenting experts in an interactive online forum. webbybites videos address a wide-variety of issues and new ideas targeted to both the babybites and kiddybites audiences.

In addition to the video, each webbybites blog post provides background on the expert and an invitation for our community of parents to engage in meaningful discussion. We encourage you to ask questions of our experts and others, and weigh in with your own opinions and experiences.

Karen L. Rancourt, Ph.D., is an educator, coach and author, as well as a mother, wife and grandmother. Dr. Rancourt works with parents (www.RancourtParenting.com), helping them understand: their child-rearing preferences and styles, how their preferences and parenting styles are similar to those of their spouse/partner, how they may differ, and how to use these preferences to be a more effective parent. Karen received her Ph.D. in human behavior and education from the University of Maryland; she completed her undergraduate work in education and social sciences at Boston University. Interview with M.S.W and Author of ‘Raising Your Toddler’ Marsha Greenberg

Marsha Greenberg M.S., M.S. W., is a therapist in New York City. She is the author of the newly released book, Raising Your Toddler by Globe Pequot Press. She has a masters degrees in Child and Family Development and Social Work from the University of Michigan. As the Director of the Health Systems Child Care Program for over 14 years, she was responsible for over 250 children between the ages of 6 weeks and 6 years of age. She wrote the training manual for the program, designed the physical spaces and trained over 200 teachers specializing in infant toddler care including the training of Head Start staff in southeast Michigan.

How to Identify and Support Your Child’s Learning Style and Challenges (High School and Beyond)

In this video, Dr. Rebecca Mannis, a Certified Learning Specialist, talks about ways that parents of high schoolers can better identify and address their child’s learning styles and challenges and therefore support reading, writing and comprehension at home. As a child moves toward high school, the educational demands will increase to include reading to learn and systemize on demand. These skills are derived from the frontal lobe (part of the central nervous system) which isn’t finished developing until adolescence. Dr. Mannis outlines several strategies for children who have difficulty with complicated language or skimming texts, and also touches on how you and your child can determine what type of University might be a good match, based on his or her individual learning style.

In addition to writing many eduction articles, Dr. Mannis is the executive director of Ivy Prep. She is a certified learning specialist and holds her doctorate in child development. Dr. Mannis consults to schools and corporations about learning disabilities, remediation, individualized instruction and adaptive technology.

She reviews the advantages of a legal will which appoints the legal guardians for your children should something happen to you and your spouse. She then explains what a trust is, why you may need one, and what the advantages are.
